George Fan designed the game to be a more defense-oriented sequel to his previous title Insaniquarium, and took inspiration from games like Magic: The Gathering and Warcraft III. He also included elements from his other games, such as Bubble Boom and the Zen Garden.
Is Plants vs. Zombies 1 free?
A free trial version of the game is available for download on PC. This version allows players to play up to Level 3-4 of Adventure Mode and will automatically link them to the way to get the full game. However, this version has a one hour time limit.
The game features a variety of different plants, each with its own unique zombie-fighting abilities. Sunflowers, for example, provide solar power while also attacking zombies, pea shooters offer a basic long-distance defense, and there are even special plant-like zombies like Backup Dancer Zombies, Dolphin Rider Zombies, Zomboni, Giga-gargantuars and Imps that require special strategies to defeat.

What are the plants in Plants vs. Zombies 1?
There are several plants in Plants vs. Zombies 1 and each of them have different and distinct capabilities that can help the player defend their home. There are the Peashooter, which shoots in five directions like a star; Snow Peas, which slow down and free zombies by firing frozen peas; Chomper, a melee plant that can smash incoming zombies; Sunflower, a medic that can heal nearby plants; Cactus, which has a powerful sniper attack; and the new and unlockable tank class Torchwood, which fires rockets at zombies.
Another useful plant is Ice-shroom, which freezes all the zombies on screen. The player can then deal damage to them with the other plants. Melon-pult is the toughest non-insta kill plant, which can vaporize a huge wave of zombies with just three to four shots. It can also be upgraded into Winter Melon through Crazy Dave’s shop. This plant can also create splash damage on a 3×3 area.

The player defends a house from a horde of zombies, who approach in a variety of ways along several parallel lanes. The player places various organic defensive plants that fire projectiles at the zombies or otherwise hinder their progress. If a zombie makes it to the house on any lane, the game is lost.
The game features a wide variety of zombies, including standard ones as well as zombies kitted out with all sorts of protective equipment. Some, such as the Pole Vaulting Zombie, require more damage to kill than others, and some have different heads; for example, a Balloon Zombie has more strands of hair on its head than a normal one.
George Fan drew inspiration from many sources, including the trading card game Magic: The Gathering and the strategy video games Warcraft III and Insaniquarium. He also consulted with the members of his development team for feedback. The final version of Plants vs. Zombies is influenced by both these sources as well as the action-adventure game Super Mario Bros.
What are the levels in Plants vs. Zombies 1?
Each level in Plants vs. Zombies 1 has a different day, night, pool or fog type and can be won by destroying all the zombies that spawn across three lanes in front of your house (if you let a single one through you lose the level). After each level a new seed packet from the Bloom and Doom Seed Company is received — these are a good way to pick up Upgrade Plants and other Support/Other plants.
During the Day levels, the player’s first Plant is the Peashooter. This shoots peas at zombies in the lane it’s in every 1.5 seconds and takes 10 to kill a basic zombie. During the Night levels, the player can also plant Puff-shrooms which fire spores that deal the same damage as Peashooter but cover a larger area. The Defend-o-nuts and the Red Explode-o-nuts are both able to attack in the lanes above or below their current lane and can bypass any shields that the Zombies have on them.
